Mellor Mill Site Director (Contract Tender)

Contract to be awarded by: Mellor Mill Heritage Park Limited for HLF supported Revealing Oldknow’s Legacy Project

Contract Role: Mellor Mill Site Director

Location: Mellor, Stockport, Cheshire

Terms: Maximum £70,000 over a three year fixed-term contract (daily rate £200, approximately 117 days per annum). The role includes weekend working.

Overview: Tenders are invited from individual contractors interested in this role to support an HLF funded partnership project to be delivered by Mellor Archaeological Trust/Mellor Mill Heritage Park Ltd and Canal & River Trust. The project focuses upon three heritage sites in Mellor and Marple near Stockport and celebrates the industrialist and entrepreneur Samuel Oldknow (1757-1828).

 The Mill Site Director will work to deliver the Mellor Mill site part of the project and with other members of the Project team to support the wider aims of the whole project. This will include directing excavations; acting as principal contractor to provide specialist building knowledge and skills; overseeing community archaeology digs and other activities.

The successful contractor will demonstrate proven background and experience in building and construction together with good working knowledge of historic building techniques. Archaeological expertise is not necessary, but an appreciation of industrial archaeology is considered essential. The successful contractor would also need excellent communication, team playing and people skills.

Closing date for written submissions is noon on Tuesday 9th September 2014. Shortlisted applicants will be expected to attend an interview panel during week commencing 15th September 2014.
