In the drought of 1995 John and Ann, the residents of the Old Vicarage, noticed crop marks in and around their garden, which proved to be the deep ditch of a remarkable and previously unsuspected Iron Age "Hillfort".
They set up the Mellor Archaeological Trust to investigate this further and volunteers led by Archaeologists
from the University of Manchester uncovered remarkable evidence of 10,000 years of History.
Now, supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund and Stockport MBC The Mellor Heritage Project, aims to research and document the whole Parish of Mellor and its History from Prehistoric times to the present day.

New Website

If you were expecting the website of the Mellor Archaeological Trust then you are still in the right place! Unfortunate technical problems, the old site outgrowing itself but also the much wider range of activity in the Mellor Heritage Project required a new beginning. With the invaluable help of Ian Bowker of Smiling Synthesis we now hope to be better organised, robust and easily updated to bring you all the news from the project as soon as possible.
