Tours of Mellor Mill for the Festival of British Archaeology

July 17th and 18th 2010, first tour 10.30am, last tour 2.30pm
For the Festival of British Archaeology tours will be availble of the remains of Mellor Mill, which was built by Samuel Oldknow in 1790 and burnt down in 1892. Although virtually everything above ground has gone, the remains of many of the below ground features can be seen, thanks to an evaluation excavation which was carried out in March 2009. The site is privately owned and, for safety reasons, the mill complex is not normally open to the public. The tour will show the base of the mill walls, wheelpits, tunnels and other features of this industrial complex in the Goyt Valley.
The cost will be £3-00 per person, £1-00 for concessions (unwaged), Unfortunately not suitable for children under 14.
