How the Project is Managed

The Mellor Archaeological Trust is run by a Board of Trustees which meet quarterly and consists of:

John Hearle (Chairman); Stan Bannister (Treasurer); Pam Bates (Secretary); Donald Reid (Archivist); Representatives of local groups, societies, local residents and co-opted members: Peter Jenner, Peter Forbes, John Hodgson, Bob Humphrey-Taylor, Ann Hearle; Norman Redhead (GMAU) and three advisers: John Roberts (UMAU), Peter Noble (UMAU) and Philip Day (scientific advisor).

 

The Mellor Heritage Project employs Two full time Paid Staff:

A Project Officer, appointed by UMAU and an Education and Community Officer, appointed by Stockport MBC

The Project itself is directed by a Management Group appointed by the Trust which consists of: The Chief Executive of the project - John Hearle; John Roberts (UMAU) Norman Redhead (GMAU); Frank Galvin (SMBC); Peter Noble (Project Officer); Marie Widger (Education Officer); Pam Bates (Secretary) and the conveners of Six Steering Groups which will support the project.

These six groups are made up as follows:

1. Excavation and Geophysics, led by Don Reid with Norman Redhead, John Roberts, Philip Day, David Cheshire, Sue Miall, Steve Milne and Elizabeth Galloway.

2. History, led by Ann Hearle, with Donald Reid, John Smith, Ron Weston, Peter Arrowsmith (UMAU), Tony Jones, and Edwin Whailey.

3. Community and Education, led by Shan Alexander, with Ann Hearle, Frank Galvin (SMBC) Amanda Cowell (SMBC) Gillian Wilson (SMBC) and Marie Widger (Education Officer)Miranda Ferguson, Judy Cooper and Pam Bates.

4. Trails and Information Boards, led by Stan Bannister, with John Hodgson, Bob Humphrey-Taylor, Peter Jenner, Frank Galvin, David Ackroyd, Judy Pridgeon and Chris Walters.

5. Publications, IT and Filming, led by John Hearle, with Norman Redhead (UMAU), John Roberts (UMAU),  Donald Reid, Chris Mann, David Wilcox, Ann Hearle, Ann O'Mara, Maxine Wild and Pam Bates.

6. Liason with Stockport Museum, led by Don Reid, with Ann O'Mara, Frank Galvin and others to be appointed

7. Finance, led by John Hearle, with Stan Bannister (Treasurer) and a Financial Advisor/Auditor (to be appointed)

The Project will be periodically monitored by an External Evaluation Panel to consist of: Professor David Shotter, Councillor Tom McGee and Derek Brumhead.
