The Mellor Archaeological Trust
The initial excavations in 1998 were privately funded. However, when the scale, nature and importance of the site was realised, it became necessary to formalise and organise the running of the project.
In 1999 therefore, John and Ann set up the Mellor Archaeological Trust to promote the investigation, interpretation and preservation of the archaeology of the area around Mellor Church and surrounding parts of Mellor, Stockport and Greater Manchester.
The Trust will continue to manage the Mellor Heritage Project which will run from 2006 to 2009 and extend this work to cover not only the archaeology but also the history of the whole of the Parish of Mellor, including Ludworth and Marple Bridge.
