Mellor Heritage Project

The Trust works in partnership with UMAU but all of its own members are volunteers, so there are lots of opportunities to get involved as a volunteer in areas other than the actual excavation. Have a look at some of the other possibilities we have at the moment:

 

Illustration What sort of place was Mellor when the Neolithic Chisel was made? What did the clay pipe smokers look like as they supped at the Church Inn? Picture the scene when a beautiful Roman woman arrived wearing the Roman brooch amongst her fine clothing. If you are inspired by the site and would like to try your hand at illustrating how it  might have looked during any point of its 10,000 history, then feel free to have a go! We would love to include original illustrations from Adults and Children of all ages.

Desktop Research If you have read some of the Academic Reports and would like to help us to find out more about any of our finds, participate in a Discussion Forum with other interested people. Are you able to find any of the contemporary illustrations of the Medieval Archer who would have fired our arrowhead? Do you know of any similar finds in museums or records elsewhere. Are you an archer who can tell us anything about using such a weapon?

Legal and Professional Advice The Trust has applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund to considerably extend the scope of the work around the whole of the Mellor and Ludworth area over the next three years. We would greatly appreciate some help in an advisory capacity from someone  with an appropriate professional background on issues such as Incorporation and Liability  Insurance.

We are also offering lots of training opportunities to enable people to try their hand at things they might not even have though of before like Geophysics; Field Walking and Landscape Studies; Building Surveys; Searching and Managing Archives; Photography, Filming and Computer Graphics; Clearing sites, Erecting information boards; Making trails; providing Administrative support.
